We have a compact fieldpoint that recently stopped communicating. Accoring to the PC, ethernet port 0 is totally non-funcional as it sees the network cable as unplugged. Port two appears to work but the controller doesn't show up in MAX using port 1. I have attached the Console out report below.

Using fieldpoint with scientific linux and USB-RS232 interface

I am using a desktop PC with SLC5 and an USB-RS232 interface. I need to program a fieldpoint FP1000 module within labView. Visaconf is correctly seeing the interfaces (4 ports: /dev/ttyUSB0 .. 3, mapped as ASRLx::INSTR, with x = 1..4), but when I try to use "Advanced Serial Write and Read.vi", I always get timeout. If I try "Optomux Send General Command.vi", it looks broken (the parameter "VISA resource name" is connected to the "port number" input of "FPOptoHandler.vi" and the type is not matched).

What am I doing wrong ? Am I missing some piece ?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Ho un pc con SLC5, con interfaccia USB-RS232 e sto cercando di parlare con fieldpoint. Visaconf vede correttamente 4 interfacce (/dev/ttyUSB0, 1, 2, 3), mappate su ASRL1::INSTR .. ASRL4::INSTR.

Unable to detect cFP in MAX

Hi,

We have cFP 2020 module along with AIO 600. We installed LabVIEW 8 when we brought the product. Now since the version of LabVIEW is very old we downloaded the evaluation version of LabVIEW 2011 with Device Drivers and installed on the computer that has already LabVIEW 8 Installed.

After Installing LabVIEW 2011 along with Device Drivers, the Field Point Module is not getting detected in both the versions of LabVIEW, before the install everything workrd fine for us.

What might be the problem ? Is there any doc for upgrading the complete setup (both software and hardware) to latest version

Looking forward for some valuable suggestions

Thanks

cFP-DIO-550

I have the following hardware and software.

- cFP-2220

- cFP-DIO-550

- LabView 8.6

I'm using the digital output vi from the example of LabView 8.6. This exampel vi works with the cFP-DIO-550. However, because the example has 16 channels and the cFP-DIO-550 only has 8, I can only toggle the last 8 channels from the digital ouput vi screen. How can I reduce or reconfigure to change from 16 to 8 channels on the vi to make it work?

Thanks

cFP-Quad-510 is slow to update

Hi:

I think I may allready know the answer to this question, so here it goes.

I am using cFP-2220 with AI-112 (3S/s), AO-210 (200S/s), DI-301 (1KS/s), DO-401 (20KS/s), Quad-510 (1MHz), SG-140 (1.1KS/s), RLY-423. I think the one is causing my update delay is the AI-112 is the slowest at 3S/s. Is there a way to speed the update of the Quad-510 without changing the AI-112 to a AI-118 witch it has a 10.42KS/s.

The cFieldPoint only has the minimal software install. I try to install more into it but when I do that I can not communicate with the cFieldPoint. I am using LabView 11, FiedlPoint 6.11

cFP-2100 Comm failure with Status light solid

I have a cFP-2100 with cFP-TC-120, cFP-AI-110, cFP-AO-210, cFP-DIO-550, and a cFP-CB-1 per I/O module.

My labview program complained that it couldn't find this module, but it could see 2 other cFP-2100 bricks in the system. The faulted brick had the Status light On solid Red, as well as the green Power light and the "A" light On (B,C,D off). Each of the I/O modules had Power light On but Ready light Off. I cycled power on the module and checked the ethernet cable. Same result. I checked to see if MAX could see this brick. It could see the other 2 bricks, but not this one.

So I did some debugging (at least I think that's what we could call it). I pulled all the CB-1 modules, same result. I pulled all the I/O modules, same result. I disconnected ethernet cable, same LEDs. I re-seated the cFP-2100 module into the backplane, same result. I tried power up with DISABLE VI dip switch set, same result. With SAFE MODE set, same result. I tried RESET IP and SAFE MODE, then tried to discover the remote system in MAX, not there.

Is there any way to rescue this module or am I going to need to spend $2K on a new one?

Thanks.

How to measure a pulse width and it location as the unit is moving

I need to measure a pulse width an its location as the unit is traveling.

My unit travels 1.05" on 1.5 sec or .47 in/sec. At 12.5 Vdc the pulse is about .100 inch in width by design we know were the pulse should be as the unit travels. I use a linear encoder to measure the position of the unit. I need to capture the position of the start of the pulse and the position of the end of the pulse.

The pulse is analog V see attach for description of pulse.

I am using a cRIO 9074, 9205, 9411 in scan mode with LabView 11.

Hope some one can get me an idea how or point me in a direction or an example.

FieldPointOPC2.exe Driver & Communication Loss

Background/Environment:

Currently I have a legacy hardware system utilizing older FieldPoint FP-1600 ethernet modules with a couple of Discrete Input & Output modules. I run a custom desktop Visual C++ application which connects to the FieldPoint array through Ethernet via OPC server through the FieldPointOPC2.exe driver. The application doesn't run LabView or any other auxillary NI software to perform its work. The desktop computer (HP Proliant DL380 G4) was originally running Windows 2000 and Field Point Explorer to handle configuration. The computer was replaced with a HP Proliant DL380 G7 server running Windows Server 2008 SP1. FieldPointExplorer was replaced with MAX 4.1, the application updated for Visual Studio 2008, and we currently still use the FieldPointOPC2.exe driver (version 4.0.1.15). I believe the driver may be configured to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3 but not certain. I am not certain what firmware level is running on the FP-1600 but is not likely to be the latest. No NI additional services are running besides NI Configuration Manager.

The application seems to have brief periods where a loss of communication to the OPC server occurs. I suspect this because inputs will seemingly all change state creating warnings/alerts in our application, but very quickly will return to normal operation as if nothing was ever wrong. The issue occurs very rarely and randomly (maybe once/week) although the system runs almost 24x7 6-days per week. Network hardware all appears to be ok including cabling. Is 4.0.1.15 the latest driver version for FieldPointOPC2.exe? Other forum posts suggest a version 5 may be available but I've had no luck locating it in the online driver packages.

Outside of the random loss of communication, I also experience an occasional application exception which I believe may also be tied to the FieldPointOPC2 driver:

Updating the hardware is not readily an option due to funding issues and I'm hesistant to update FP1600 firmware considering their age, availability, and non-supported status from NI. Any help is greatly appreciated.

cFP vs cRIO Scan Mode

During 2011 I made a comparison between using Compact FieldPoint hardware and cRIO hardware in LabVIEW. Please note that I am only talking about cRIO Scan Mode here, not Real-Time use or FPGA use.Intially I was recomended by NI to switch from cFP to cRIO, but after some time of testing I had to conclude that cFP was the best alternative for my applications. Here's the negatives on cRIO in Scan mode that made me draw this conclusion;

-The subroutine to scan and detect all modules and signals present on a cRIO chassis contained a bug that

makes it malfunction when more than one ethernet port is available on the computer

-The option of setting and reading input range and similar configuration is not available in ordinary scan

mode or in real-time mode, it can only be set up with FPGA programming

-Distributed System Manager does not let the user set the signal configuration,

and is hence not a fullgood alternative to MAX

-Having to program the Watchdog functionality in real-time system of the cRIO chassis

is not as good an alternative as cFP where this system is built in in software

- NI gave me some tips about some "more advanced APIs" to handle the cRIO, but it

turned out to contain nothing really useful for me.

- Most changes and hardware configurations seems to be linked only within the LabVIEW project.
This means both that outside access is very limited, and that changes in hardware means recompiling and new versions.

Could be this has improved the last year, and that your applications might do better with cRIO in Scan Mode,

but these are some vital points you should evaluate closer.

FieldPoint IO Point selector handling new IAK file

According to

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/F1362AF9CB23BD16862574420066F426?OpenDocument

and my experience, it is not easy and dynamic to expand your FieldPoint hardware, update the

IAK-file and let your executable pick out the new channels to read and write signals.

The FieldPoint IO VI only understands the IAK file that was distributed with the exe-file, it seems.

If I (or my customers) expands the number of FieldPoint modules, and updates the IAK file accordingly,

is there any way to make the executable (and the FieldPoint IO Point selector) understand the new

FieldPoint hardware correctly, without having to create a new executable ?

I need to up-date the software to LabView 2012. I have done some testing and at the start up of the program it reads and writes to the modules but once that happens and go further into the program error 32812 ( tag not found) stars to show up for all modules read or write and the program will not run.

Yes, I do have a current iak file. I do have it in the project.

I do have FieldPoint 6.0.11 in my PC

Have not change the Firmware in the FP-1000

I think I all ready my know the answear, if that is tha case I will have to stop production for a few days to get the update done.

CFP-2220 USB access in Labview

I have a LabVIEW program (Labview 2012) running deployed on a CFP-2220 (Field Point version 6.0.11). The program creates a log file that is saved to a USB drive connected to the CFP. I was wondering if there was a way in Labview to access this file (say once a day) and transfer it to the computer the CFP is connected to while the program is running (as the program will be running continuously).

If it is easier, I could also write the file directly to the CFP's hard drive.

I am working on software written by an ex employee, and have run across a string connected to the connection in terminal of a datasocket write function addressing a cFP-1808 DO module that I have not run across before. It does not generate an error, but I cannot determine it's purpose. The string is: \\10.0.1.105\FP\7DO\14?sync=true. I understand the part up to the 14 - 14th output of the DO module in slot 7, etc. What I don't understand is the '?sync=true' part. Can anyone help?

Hi everyone.

I am having trouble detecting my Fieldpoint module cFP-2110 in MAX in order to perform initial configuration and assign it a staic IP address. I am using a relatively old computer running MAX 4.6.2f1 and Windows 2000 (due to needing to use an old GC). I have connected the fieldpoint module via ethernet directly to the PC's only network card using a crossover cable. I reset the IP address on the Fieldpoint module using the switches on the front of the module, and I have assigned the PC a static IP address of 192.168.1.1 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 as suggested in the troubleshooting guides. The ethernet connection lights up on the module indicaiting that the cable is connected and the computer confirms that a link is established. Even after this, the fieldpoint module is not detected in MAX.

I have connected a COM cable and read the console output of the fieldpoint module to confirm it is functioning properly, and it shows that it is funning BIOS v1.0.7 and firmware v10.4. It also shows that it is unconfigured with an IP address of 0.0.0.0.

I have read many troubleshooting guides and have not found anything that worked. What do you think I need to do?

Thanks for the help in advance.

FP memory leak

I'm using a lot of cFP hardware in a LV 2011 project. The program has started to crash, indicating that all memory is taken. After using the Desktop Execution Trace Toolkit, I see that it is the FP Read (Float -IO).vi that eats 4 kbytes? of data each time it is used. The problem is not present when I run the source code from LabVIEW, it is only when I make an executable, that the problem is present. Since I use a lot of cFP-modules, and read each signal individually, it doesn't take many days to eat all memory, even though each Read operation just eats a little. Anybody else seen this, or got any clue about how to solve it ? The problem has popped up last months, earlier on no problem. And I believe I have other projects without this problem, so I'm a bit confused...(PS; this is not a real-time application, the program is running on a computer).
