Can I view the PXI 8106's video output remotely?

Hello:

I need to solve the follwing puzzle: My PXI is remotely controlled via a wireless network. The PC is some 100 feet away.  Can I view the PXI 8106's video output remotely in Labview?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi Anco-MPS,

Unfortunately video out functionality for the PXI 8106 controller does not work with the current IMAQ drivers. We are aware of this issue and are addressing it.

The following thread discusses this same issue:

The work-around mentioned in this thread may cause a large memory leak - not desirable, to say the least - but you can give it a try. Another feasible work-around is to send files over TCP or UDP to your remote machine.

Thank you Michelle:

I tried the 'video' TCP route but could not get the remote desktop to communicate with the PXI controller even though I can communicate with it and send data back and forth without any issues.  Is there a small communication vi. that addresses this issue.  Maybe somebody in the past has figured that out.

Again - Thank you for your help!

Anco-MPS,

Can you give me a little more detail - you say you cannot communicate with your PXI econtrolr. What exactly happens? Can you see anything? Is it just the video that is not showing up?

Michelle: Again, thank you for reviewing my question. Attached is a power point slide that demonstrates my current setup. My TCP communication to and from the PXI works very well. I am trying to simplify my trouble shooting process while developing my application since access to the PXI in its current location is difficult. Thanks again - Michael

Michael,

Ah, I understand how/why you want to set up a remote video display. Now, what happens when you try to set up a remote session with your PXI system? Are you getting errors? What is happening that you are not expecting? You say you can send data?

Michelle:

The PXI only runs the LV-RT8.5 OS -no Win XP.  Within the LV and LV-RT 8.5 environment I can easily transfer data back and forth - just no video.  Do  I need a special set of drivers installed on the PXI for this to work?

Thanks again - Michael

Michael,

You do not need to install any special drivers as we are working on a solution that will add Video Out functionality.

You should be able to save your video to file (.avi) and, just like any other file, send this to your laptop.

Are you not able to do this?

What happens?

Hi Michelle,

Do you have any idea on the time schedule of the video output driver for the 8106. Because I am thinking of purchasing a 8106RT, but for my application in machine vision it is critical to have a screen directly connected to the system.

Awaiting any suggestions,

Regards Ard Nieuwenhuizen.

Hi Ard,

We do not have a time-frame for when this functionality will be available. Please check back as I will update this thread when this is available.
