Using Accepted Solutions!

The NI Discussion Forums has a new feature, the ability to mark a particular reply as the solution to your question!

Marking a solution allows other users to quickly and easily:

  • Identify the particular reply that answers a question
  • See which threads have been answered while browsing a board
  • Find messages while searching that are solutions

When you mark a reply as a solution to your question, the thread is marked as "Solved" () and you can click on the "Go to Solution" icon to jump directly to the accepted solution:

Best practices:

  • If many users contributed to the solution, be sure to give them Kudos for helping!
  • Usually you will mark a reply from another user as a solution - only mark your own reply if you have provided the solution to your question.
  • If you mark the wrong reply as a solution or a better solution emerges, you can unmark the solution from the Options menu.  You can unmark a solution at any time.
  • Have a new question? Remember to start a new thread! This will help other users see your new question and allow you to mark the appropriate reply as the solution.  Only one solution can be marked per thread.

I hope that you find this new feature useful!

Laura

In case a beginner starts a thread with a basic question and it was immediately answered and he marks it as solution, but maybe few hours or days later, if another one gave a better solution than this and if as a beginner the owner didn't know which is a perfect solution, then how this situation can be tackled in the forums????

  • Only one solution can be marked per thread.

  •           Maybe this can be made flexible, so that the owner of the thread can mark some multiple answers as solutions.

    Remember this quote,

"Like a coin is having two sides, a query can have more than one solution."

That will make whole exercise of marking the solution useless. The present scenario is just fine according to me.Just that your suggestion arised one more question. What will happen to the person who has provided a solution when the user changes the solution will he be deprived of one solution given point?

I just want to mention that there is no concept of a "solution" point.  We are not tracking this because we don't want to cause problems about which reply was the solution.  A solution marking is designed more to help other users that have the same problem that are searching and browsing the forum looking for answers.  They can then know which reply answered the original question.

    * Waqar:

You posted in the wrong forum and in the wrong thread for some unknown reason. Do you have problems with the online interface?

Try to post in the NXT forum for better results. Good luck.
