Welcome to the List 2, with the 25th issue of the LabVIEW Enthusiasts List.

For those who discover this topic, the LIST is an enumeration of all the Enthusiasts, subscribers to the NI forum (whatever the field of interest) that have given at least 50 replies. The Enthusiast file is updated during each week-end. A number of yield and kinetic parameters are recorded. The position in the List is a function of the total "actual" replies number (BreakPoint contributions are subtracted). If you have any positive feeling, please add some stars to my score. If you have any complains, give me a phone call. This is the third thread opened on this subject, after "the LIST" (130 posts - 840 readings) and "Enthusiasts II" (222 posts - 1460 readings).

This week, Rolfk, Ian fung and Jabba have been among the most active members. Of course, Altenbach and Dennis are still hoovering over the whole lot.
If you look carefully, you will discover that we have an intruder among the top active members: Joe90, one of our youngest members (first connection 15/03/2005, born in 90) is starting his carreer at an impressive rate. He already overtook tst and Ben. Hardi petit !

Next forecasted historical events :
Dennis Knutson, 5000 replies, around july 10th
Altenbach, 2000 replies, around july 12th
Ben, 3000 replies, before the end of july (hurry up Ben, I have to go on holidays...)
tst, 2000 replies, around december 25th.
JLV, 1000 replies, idem, next year.
You can begin to prepare your congratulations for the celebrations.

Welcome to six new members : cosmo, tonio6381, Irene He, happybird, Eric M and NIDave.
The LIST holds now 487 names !

Here is the trending VI, backsaved to 6.1, with all the data from file #6 to #25, and with a few bugs fixed.
Keeping the data file updated is easy - you just need to save the file in Excel as a text file and then load the file in the VI. As long as the file's structure does not change, it should work.
For those who don't know it, the purpose of the VI is simply to chart the fields in the list over time, so you can see, for example, when you posted a lot (replies for last week) or how your ratings grew or, of course, how you're doing compared to others (Shhh...).

None of the above.
I'm ashamed in you. As someone who has himself fought with the forces of evil that make up the NI attachment system, I would expect you to be more sympathetic to my plight. Incidentally, I must say that I did not understand your previous advice in this matter about changing proxies (or whatever it was).

Hi tst

Usually I don't critisize other's work if I not know if I could have done it better but...

I'm annoyed by the time it takes to select a person. Hundreds of names in an unsorted order - but wait a minute - they are sorted by the position in the list. Oh **** which was my last position?

So PLEASE sort these items and you could make a european very happy.. :smileywink:.

A. Criticism is good. It helps us evolve.

B. You're right, and I have noticed that myself, but, because I was near the top of the list anyway and wasn't feeling like coming up with a way to conveniently sort a list with hundreds of options, I simply didn't. Since the source code is supplied, everybody can modify this as they like. For example, the quickest way would be to place a Sort 1D Array after the Remove Duplicates VI.
You can click two letters at the same time to jump, let's say press and hold 'b' and then press 'e'. Theoretically, you could use this to jump to your own name, but since sorting will make the capitals (B, C) come before the lowercases (b, i.e. you), you will get to someone starting with 'BE' or 'Be'.

C. Unlike the list, this isn't supposed to have some canonical source. It's up to each user to keep the file updated each week, and anyone can make modifications. If people like this, I strongly encourage further development. I just started it. It probably still has bugs and could be done better. For example, it would be nice if it was possible to save some preset queries. If you see something worth changing, then by all means, change it and post the updated version.

You have been lucky to be able to add your attachment after 8 mins. I didn't know that it was possible to answer a reply while it's edited. There is potentially a lot of interesting paradoxes here. What happens if I edit my post while you are replying to it after editing yours ?
Anyway it's a great pleasure to find something I could criticize about you (and that should be regarded as a compliment).
And there is also something that should make us closer friends. Most often, I'm also ashamed in me... Specially since Ben invented the Hall-of-Shame for me...

RE:Excluding the Break point contributions....

Weekly bug report

Interesting posts

Picture Control

Obfuse code

Are examples of enlightening topics that do not count toward totals.

It just strikes me as odd that we are not counting some of the most efficient communications threads.

Just thinking out loud. And while I am thinking about it, wasn't it my idea to restrict BP contributions from the totals?

CC,

When are you due back from your holiday? I will slow down or restrict myself to posting to threads that "Don't count".

Molly,

What is your list going to look like?

Ben

You are right Ben !

Some of the breakpoint threads are really technically valuable. The breakpoint was not intented to held such matters. The additionnal technical threads should not have been opened in the BreakPoint.

You were not the only one complaining about the fact that some of our posts were turning "frivolous" while still counted as "true" replies.

I'll have some additionnal work to tune the way the List data are collected. Basically I'll have to create an exception table... while the BreakPoint was itself an exception ! Let's try something this evening, just to see how it looks like.

At the present time, the following threads (as Re:: ) are excluded from the "actual" replies count :
-BreakPoint (all the threads)
-Icons thread
-Enthusiasts 2
-The List
-The List 2
-Congratulations (Old Brook, Dennis Knutson, BilalD)
-I have lost stars, I want them back
-Dramatic, where are the top contributors
-Christian bucks the trend and reshapes out view of the world!

Remember that the opening thread (without the Re: as prefix) is not counted as a reply (counted in the Total started threads)

And to answer your last question, I'll be "on duty" until the end of July, where I hope to see you over 3000 (BTW, what is a wimp ? Not in my dictionnary...)

Hi CC,

"BTW, what is a wimp ?"

Wimp is the antithesis of a champion.
