How to use LabVIEW Biomedical Toolkit – Biosignal Generator

Biosignal Generator

The Biosignal Generator use analog output channels of National Instruments hardware to generate biosignals. You can generate biosignals from files or generate synthetic biosignals, including electrocardiogram (ECG), surface electromyography (sEMG) and electroencephalogram (EEG) signals.

Configure DAQ output channel

Complete the following steps to configure DAQ output channel.

  1. In the Biosignal Generator, click the DAQ Settings button to display the DAQ Settings dialog box.
  2. Select an NI hardware device from the Device name pull-down menu. You use analog output channels of the NI hardware device to generate biosignals.
  3. In the Channel Information section, specify the configurations for the physical channel that you want to use to generate biosignals.
  4. Click the Add button next to Channel list to add the channel you specified in Channel Information.
  5. Click the OK button to close the DAQ Settings dialog box.

Generate Biosignals from Files

Complete the following steps to generate biosignals from files by using the Biosignal Generator with a data acquisition (DAQ) device.

  1. Click the File Settings button to display the File Settings dialog box.
  2. Click the Browse button next to the File path text box to navigate to and select the file that you want to use for generating biosignals.
  3. From the File contents tree, select the channel that you want to use for generating biosignals. You can select multiple channels but the Biosignal Generator uses only the first channel that you select to generate biosignals.
  4. Use the Properties, Waveform Values, and Waveform Graph pages to view the properties of the channel, the waveform values in the channel, and the waveform graph of the channel, respectively. If you select multiple channels in the File contents tree, the Waveform Graph displays all the channels in the same plot.
  5. (Optional) Place a checkmark in the Show the selected annotation/comment checkbox to view the annotations and comments in the channels that you select in the File contents tree.
  6. Click the OK button to close the File Settings dialog box.
  7. (Optional) In the Gain pull-down menu, select a gain value that you want to apply to the generated biosignals.
  8. Click the Start button to start generating biosignals from the file.
  9. Click the Stop button to stop generating biosignals. The Biosignal Generator automatically stop generating biosignals when the file reaches the end.

Generate Synthetic Biosignals

Complete the following steps to generate synthetic biosignals by using the Biosignal Generator with a data acquisition (DAQ) device.

  1. Click the Signal Settings button to display the Signal Settings dialog box.
  2. Click the Signal type pull-down menu and select the type of signal that you want to generate. The Biosignal Generator can generate ECG, sEMG, and EEG signals.
  3. In the Signal Settings dialog box, specify the settings for the type of signal that you want to generate.
  4. Click the OK button to close the Signal Settings dialog box.
  5. (Optional) In the Gain pull-down menu, select a gain value that you want to apply to the generated biosignal.
  6. Click the Start button to start generating the biosignal.
  7. Click the Stop button to stop generating biosignals.
